All of the following opportunities are for children and their parents to do TOGETHER. Agencies and the community service opportunities they provide are NOT a daycare or baby-sitting service.

Unless otherwise stated, all of the following opportunities are open to children of all ages. It is up to the parents to decide if the activity is appropriate for their child. Please be considerate of other parents, children and individuals involved in making this decision.

Alliance of AIDS services - Carolina

Where: Locations vary depending on activity

What/ When/ How Often:

  • Special Events - Assist staff with the preparation for and running of special events and/or participate in events (like the Aids Walk & Ride) - Dates and times vary. See Kids Connect calendar for dates/times.
  • Food Pantry Helper - Assistance needed in stocking shelves and hand out food to clients. All day Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for kids of all ages. Wednesdays for kids aged 10 and up. Located near Wake Med in Raleigh. Individuals can either be for one-time service or on a regular basis.
  • Hustead House Helper - Provide a variety of care giving services to HIV+ residents, including appointment driver, companion, meal provider - cook meals for house residents and assistance with lawn and garden maintenance.
  • Faith Ministry Care Team Member - Provide non-judgmental practical care and emotional support to a client. Families need to make an on-going commitment to this opportunity.
  • On Your Own - Food Drives - Needed to supply both the Durham and Raleigh Food Pantries.

Farms throughout the Triangle and North Carolina - depends on the harvest

What/ When/ How Often:

  • Harvest gleeners - Hand-gather produce in area farms leftover after the harvest. Gathered food is taken immediately to local food distribution centers. Primarily on Saturday mornings throughout the year.
