County-wide
recycling - Families, groups, students can collect cans,
newspaper, white paper (KJCB can provide a complete list
of recyclables) and take to one of many county recycling
centers located throughout the county.
County-wide
clean-up and/or beautification projects- Families, groups,
students can organize a cleanup or beautification project
for a public space in the county. KJCB will potentially
assist with materials (like plants) and equipment.
Youth
Environmental Poster Contest - Held in the Spring of
each year. Open to k-12 aged students.
Swat-a-Litterbug
Program - KJCB provides cards that volunteers keep in
the glovebox glovebox of their cars. If a volunteer sees
someone littering, they fill out the card with basic information
and mail it to DOT anonymously. The litterbug will be notified
butnot fined. Program serves primarily as an awareness raising
effort.
NC
Big Sweep - International Waterway Cleanup … Held the
first Saturday in October each year. The event is located
Smithfield Town Commons. Willing to organize smaller cleanups
to accomodate specific groups at other times during year.
Festival
of Trees - Held each year during the first week of December.
Volunteers needed both ahead of time with event preparation
as well as at the actual event. Groups can also volunteer
to decorate a tree.
