Currently,
the community service opportunities posted on are
intended for joint participation by kids and their parents,
or group leaders. Many activities have an age requirement
set by the agency or organization, often for safety reasons,
that restricts participation.
At
present, none of the postings give the age at which youth
can participate on their own. We plan to add this information
for the existing opportunities, as well as new ones, as soon
as possible.
IN
THE MEANTIME, youth are encouraged to take a look at the county
pages to get ideas and contact the agencies directly for activities
they are interested in. Many will allow teens to participate
without a parent or group leader.
hopes
to become a resource to youth interested in fulfiling community
service requirements set by the schools. If you have any information
or ideas as to how to accomplish this, please contact Kids
Connect. Also,
for those interested in taking a bigger plunge, the following
are opportunities for older kids, high school and beyond,
that involve a long-term, full-time commitment of several
months to several years.

and geographical backgrounds for a year of full-time service
to their communities.During the ten-month program, City Year
