What is the Kids Connect website? The Kids Connect Search Engine is a community resource for young people, youth leaders, educators and families hoping to make a positive impact on our world. It is provided free of charge and aims to identify, create and facilitate young people of all ages engaging in service through ideas and information. Before using Kids Connect's tools and information, please read our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
Who supports the Kids Connect website? A small, dedicated group of parents lead and direct the work of the organization. Over the three years of our existence, we have enlisted the help of a wide circle of volunteers, community and agency partners to help with programming, planning and outreach. Finally, through the financial support of the sponsors, granting organizations, and donors, we have been able to operate for three years, reaching over 40,000 folks in our area.
What kinds of service opportunities are posted in the Kids Connect Search Engine? There are a wide variety of service opportunities - activities and special events – posted in the Kids Connect Search engine. Many are one-time opportunities – like helping out at a special event. Others are on-going volunteer activities. Most are specific to an agency – either on location at the agency or projects you can do offsite in the classroom or at your kitchen table. There are also project ideas where you determine the benefiting agency.
Do I have to register or login to your site to search the Kids Connect Search Engine? No. You only have to register and login to sign up for events through our online signup.
If I am with an agency, do I have to register or login to your site to post events the Kids Connect Search Engine? Yes. The process is simple – register the first time by completing our online form, ???? and start posting. Posting opportunities and events is easy – just fill out a simple online form and submit. Opportunities that are not tied to a specific date go into the Search Engine; those with dates (like special events) are in the Search Engine as well as being posted on our Calendar.
If I find an opportunity in the Search Engine I am interested in, how do I get involved? Either contact the agency directly using information found on Kids Connect website or, if the agency has set up the option to use our online registration, register and/or login to Kids Connect and click on the sign me up button under the activity.
If I sign up for an event, how does that work? When you sign up for an activity or event through the Kids Connect website, your registration goes to the contact person at the agency; ie you are volunteering directly for that agency (not Kids Connect). Any questions, concerns, cancellations etc. should be sent to the agency – contact information can be found on the posting on our site.
What is the Kids Connect Calendar? The Kids Connect Calendar posts all of the activities and events submitted by local agencies that are held on specific dates. They can also be found by searching the Search Engine. For most of these opportunities you will have the option to use our online form to sign up for the activity. If you would like to use this online service, you first have to register and/or login to Kids Connect. Your sign up form will go to the agency and any questions, concerns, cancellations should be handled directly with them.
What is the Kids Connect Community Board? The Community Board is our new forum that provides a place where YOU can share your ideas, events, and experience. Post information regarding agencies, project ideas, other resources you want to share with other like-minded parents and youth leaders in the community. If your group is organizing an event - either a service project or an event that will benefit a community agency - that you want to publicize, there is a space on the Board. Also, this is a great place for your child to tell their story, inspiring others to action. We will add topics, etc. over time.
How do I post on the Kids Connect Community Board? Just register and login and start posting. Kids Connect is not responsible for the accuracy of agency and opportunity information on this site. We merely serve as a portal that organizes and disseminates service activity information for the benefit of our community.
I know about an activity or agency with service and learning opportunities for young people. What should I do? We are always looking for new opportunities to post on the site and share with others. If you know of an agency, please contact them and tell them about Kids Connect. We have proven to be a great resource to local agencies wanting to expand their volunteer base. Send them a link to our site and let them know how easy it is to post opportunities.
The other way to share information, opportunities with us and others in the community is to post them to the Community Board on our site. This is a great way to spread the word about project ideas, learning resources, and local agency opportunities.
How can I give feedback on my service experience? Contact the agency that you volunteered with directly and let them know about your experience – they want to hear from you. You can also post comments about your service experience on our Community Board. Your experience can serve to inspire others as well as inform others as to how to best enhance their learning and experience.
How can I support Kids Connect? There are many ways you can support our work – and all are appreciated! Help us spread the word about our site – we have an easy to use "Share this site" feature for your convenience. Take advantage of our Community Board and share your experience and information with others. And last, but certainly not least, DONATE. We need your support to keep www.kidsconnectnc.org online. |
